ECO4 & GBIS Eligibility Criteria

To benefit from ECO4 funding or the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), you must meet certain eligibility criteria. These schemes are designed to help households improve energy efficiency and reduce energy bills by offering funding for heating and insulation improvements.

Who Can Apply?

  • Homeowners:

    If you own your home, you may be eligible for ECO4 or GBIS support.
  • Private Tenants:

    You can apply for funding, but your landlord must approve any upgrades before work begins.

Benefit-Based Eligibility

You or someone in your household must be receiving one or more of the following means-tested benefits to qualify:

  1. Universal Credit
  2. Working Tax Credit Child Tax Credit
  3. Income Support
  4. Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  5. Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  6. Housing Benefit
  7. Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit)
  8. Child Benefit (with specific income thresholds based on the number of adults and children in the household).

If you or a household member receives any of these benefits, you may qualify for free home improvements under ECO4 or GBIS.

Additional Eligibility for GBIS

The GBIS scheme primarily focuses on insulation improvements to enhance energy efficiency. Even if you don’t receive benefits, you may still qualify if:

  • Your home has a low Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F, or G.
  • Your household is on a low income and struggling with high energy bills.
